Today was our first full day in Haiti.
We started the day by going to the Musee du Pantheon national Haitien, the national history museum of Haiti. It was a great experience that gave me and my fellow visitors a terrific insight in to the history of Haiti and the events that have caused it to be the country it is today. Something that stood out to me at the museum was the picture of the Citadel. I had seen many pictures and have heard people talk about it but I had no idea it was in Haiti.
After we finished the museum visit, we took a short walk around the surrounding neighborhood. and then drove to the Haitian headquarters of the Sanneh Foundation where we had lunch and met a different charitable organization.
My favorite part of the day came after that, though, when we took a walk around the neighborhood surrounding the headquarters. I met many young children who treated me and all of the other members of the group like celebrities. Almost every little child we saw would run up to us and try to hold one of our hands. On this walk we were able to see a more impoverished part of the city which was fairly sad. The rest of the day consisted of playing in a soccer game, which we lost, eating dinner, and having a group discussion. Today was very tiring but productive and I look forward to the rest of the trip.
