Minneapolis United Joins Forces with The Sanneh Foundation

Commitment to Strengthen Partnership on Behalf of Diverse Youth and Families

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: St. Paul, MN. (June 11, 2020) - The Sanneh Foundation (Sanneh) is proud to announce a strengthened partnership with Minneapolis United Soccer Club (MU). This partnership responds to the needs identified by Minneapolis United leadership to invest greater resources in a range of supports for youth and families, with a special emphasis on diversity, equity and inclusion practices to better serve all of the Minneapolis community.

Sanneh will support the club and its diverse members with Anti-racism training for players and parents, workshops and services to educate families on the college recruiting and selection process, and community leadership opportunities for female and male MU players and coaches to volunteer at free community camps, clinics, and soccer equipment and food donation and distribution efforts.

The Sanneh Foundation also wishes to recognize and thank MU for their past support, and for their history of participation in the organization’s Haitian Initiative program. The Minneapolis United Soccer Club has always promoted and participated in Sanneh’s international exchanges sending MU players to Haiti, as well as hosting Haitian youth players in Minnesota during the USA Cup.

Minneapolis United also has a long and special track record of support for the development of young Haitian Initiative players coming to Minnesota as high school students to live with families as they advance their education and pursue college opportunities. “We thank the club and its coaches for the role they have played in the lives and development of NCAA Division I bound Steevenson Lamarre, Minnesota's Class 2A Mr. Soccer winner Darley Florvil, and this year’s Gatorade Player of the Year for Minnesota, Jameson Charles,” said Tony Sanneh, CEO of The Sanneh Foundation.

“MU is determined to be a leader in the soccer community on and off the field, and that is impressive and worth recognizing because they are actively taking responsibility in helping raise our kids,” added Tony Sanneh, “I applaud their commitment to equity, including the diversity of their staff and leadership, and look forward working closely with the club to make a greater difference in the community."

Tamba Johnson, MU Technical Director and the driver behind the development of this partnership expansion said, '”MU is excited to further our partnership with The Sanneh Foundation, a relationship which dates back to when Tony was a coach for MU, and we look forward to the vital programming Sanneh will bring to our club."
